This one or That one? The choices used to be so simple. Have lots of money to spare. Go with Oracle. In a startup and have lots of services or websites running? Many PHP developers? Go with MySQL. Wanted to sound fancy? Go with Postgres. simple. technology choices are limited and decision making was easy. Focus is mainly on the app development and implementing business logic. Its not that simple anymore. So many decisions to be made. This cloud or that cloud or that cloud? this db or that db or that db? what about using open source db? how about going with the managed db? they are saying we don’t need worry about the maintenance at all :). do we need a db? someone is doing a db on top of files. Can we consider that? There is this new thing that executes queries on multiple machines. Lets do that. It will sound fancy in my resume.
